DA-8 trains farmers on cassava production

TACLOBAN CITY -- The Department of Agriculture - Regional Field Office VIII, through its Corn Program, conducted the cassava production training on August 18-19 in Malitbog, Southern Leyte which was attended by 20 farmers from six barangays of the said town.

The two-day training aimed to teach farmers the recommended production technologies in planting cassava, provide awareness and in-depth understanding about the potential health benefits of eating cassava, and to be familiar on the major strategies involved in cassava production.

Topics tackled during the lecture were program situationer and major interventions, gender sensitivity, cultural management, pest and disease control, and harvesting and post-harvest operations.

This was followed by the field practicum where the farmer participants applied farm layouting and planting distance, fertilizer application and planting. (DA-RFO VIII, RAFIS)
