BUTUAN CITY -- The local government unit (LGU) of San Francisco, Agusan del Sur, with the support of the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) – Caraga has recently conducted the one-day insertion and removal of progesterone subdermal implants (PSI) in celebration of National Family Planning (NFP) Month.
In the said activity, POPCOM shared the overview, importance, and benefits of family planning, especially the PSI insertion. In the reports submitted to the regional office, a total of 1,948 couples were served with unmet needs in Caraga for the first semester, in which a total of 362 couples and women of reproductive age preferred to use and were served with PSI. There was a 14.19% increase in the use of subdermal implants along with other modern FP methods. Data shows that more couples and women of reproductive age have shifted to using PSI, as it is one of the most effective approaches to modern family planning.
POPCOM Caraga hopes that through this initiative, many couples and women of reproductive age will be encouraged to transfer and avail of the family planning method and be empowered to have the number, timing, and spacing of children they want in the context of informed choice and responsible parenthood.
The agency continuously delivers Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning (RPFP) programs and services together with the LGUs to their communities to achieve the thrusts of the agency.
POPCOM is the country’s lead organization in population management for well-planned and empowered Filipino families and communities. Its goal is to attain a better quality of life for all Filipinos through management and maintenance of population level resources. (POPCOM-Caraga/PIA-Agusan del Sur)
