Secretary Dominguez, other leaders explore sustainability, green finance initiatives at TIME panel

GLASGOW -- Philippine Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III will be joined by Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masatsugu Asakawa, ADB Vice President for East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Ahmed Saeed, and United States Deputy Special Envoy for Climate Dr. Jonathan Pershing as he tackles sustainability and green finance initiatives in a panel discussion to be pre-recorded on November 2, 2021.

Created in partnership with TIME Magazine Singapore, the panel—titled “The Green Finance Session”-- will be moderated by veteran broadcaster and TIME Brand Editor Mark Barton.

The panel will focus on finance mobilization for investments and greening the financial system, which includes adaptation investments, green recovery, and financial tools.

The officials will share their insights on what the financial sector can do to mitigate climate change and create climate-resilient, low-carbon infrastructure across Southeast Asia.

The panel is slated to be released and amplified on TIME.com and TIME’s social platforms on November 8.

TIME’s COP26 and Climate Special Report Issue that was released on October 29, 2021 includes an advertorial exploring the financial programs and reforms the Philippines has initiated in order to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 75 percent by 2030.

This target is the Philippines’ first Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in accordance with its commitment to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

The 26th United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) runs from October 31 until November 12, 2021.

COP26 has been billed as the make-or-break chance to accelerate action on reversing the calamitous effects of the climate crisis.

The Philippine delegation, led by Secretary Dominguez, will champion climate finance and climate justice as it demands greater accountability from Western countries that contributed and continue to contribute the most greenhouse gas emissions.  (DOF)
