Struggling communities in Talacogon and San Luis, Agusan del Sur benefit from Bong Go’s efforts to help most needy sectors overcome COVID-19 crisis

PASAY CITY -- Continuing to assist communities in Agusan del Sur that were adversely affected by the national health crisis, the Office of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go conducted another distribution activity in the towns of Talacogon and San Luis on Wednesday, November 10.

In a video message, Go assured residents that the national government will continue to extend all possible support to end the pandemic and help the nation return to normalcy.

“Kung may pwede pa kaming maitulong sa inyo, magsabi lang kayo at gagawin namin ang lahat ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa abot ng aming makakaya,” Go expressed.

“Huwag kayong mag-atubiling lumapit sa aming mga opisina dahil trabaho namin ang pagsilbihan kayo. In the meantime, please cooperate with us,” added Go.

Go’s staff distributed meals, masks and vitamins to a total of 3,025 residents at the covered courts of Barangays San Agustin and San Nicolas in Talacogon and Doña Maxima Gymnasium and Municipal Amphitheater in San Luis. They also gave selected residents computer tablets, new pairs of shoes, and bicycles.

Moreover, personnel from the Department of Social Welfare and Development handed out financial assistance through its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program. The Department of Trade and Industry and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority also conducted assessments for their respective assistance programs.

Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment evaluated the residents of San Luis for its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged / Displaced Workers program.

Continuing his message, the senator informed those with health concerns that they may conveniently avail of medical assistance from the government through the Malasakit Center in Democrito O. Plaza Memorial Hospital in Prosperidad.

The Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which was primarily initiated by Go, mandates all hospitals managed and administered by the Department of Health, and Philippine General Hospital, to establish their own centers that would help particularly poor and indigent patients with their medical expenses by covering various patient services and fees.

The senator then concluded his message by commending the local officials of Talacogon and San Luis for supporting their constituents during these challenging times.

Go, who also serves as the Vice Chair of Senate Committee on Finance, supported several projects, including the construction of a municipal evacuation center in Talacogon and the construction of a multi-purpose building and the acquisition of ambulance units and dump trucks for the local government of San Luis, to ensure that their respective communities build back better from the struggles brought by the pandemic.

He also supported the construction or improvement of existing roads in Bayugan, Bunawan, Prosperidad and Veruela; concreting of local roads in Esperanza and La Paz; construction of multi-purpose buildings in Bayugan and Prosperidad; construction of an evacuation center in Prosperidad; improvement of the Adlayan riverbank in San Francisco; installation of reinforced concrete pipe culvert with pavement widening in Trento; and purchase and installation of solar street lights in Esperanza.

Other major initiatives he supported are the construction of a new public market and slaughterhouse in Bunawan; development of the Sibagat public park; and acquisition of ambulances for the local government of La Paz. (OSBG)
