DICT donates laptops to Occidental Mindoro schools

QUEZON CITY -- The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) donated laptops to beneficiaries from Tangkalan Elementary School and Occidental Mindoro National High School in Occidental Mindoro under its Cybersafe Learning for Education Project.

The Cybersafe Learning for Education Project is a component of the DICT’s Digital Education Program (DEP) which aims to optimize the use of ICT for the enhancement of cyber-education and promotion of digital literacy. The project also seeks to develop cybersafe learning hygiene for schools to protect students and teachers from various cyber threats.

“Your DICT commits to continue our intensified efforts to provide for the ICT needs of our public educational institutions—from Internet connectivity to digital education tools for their administrators, teachers, and students—during the new normal,” Undersecretary Jose Arturo C. De Castro said.

“Our goal is to build upon the achievements of former Secretary and Senator Gregorio B. Honasan II to foster an improved educational experience for our students who are currently undergoing blended and online learning,” he added.

Mr. Fred Magbanua and Mr. Sunny Boy Salazar received the devices on behalf of Occidental Mindoro National High School and Tangkalan Elementary School, respectively. The handover ceremony was also attended by A Teachers Party-list Cong. Juliet Cortuna and Ryan Taclan.

“As we continue the rollout of the project, we hope to reach more public educational institutions in need of digital resources to ensure that their basic ICT needs are properly met,” Undersecretary Arnold “Ali” I. Atienza said.

Previous beneficiaries of the project’s laptop handover include Taytay, Rizal; Muntinlupa City; Malvar, Batangas; Samar, among others. (DICT)
