PASAY CITY -- American pharmaceutical company Pfizer BioNTech delivered 1,082,250 doses of government-procured vaccines on Wednesday night, December 1.
With the latest vaccine shipment, the number of COVID-19 doses the country has received now stands at 145 million.
On Wednesday afternoon, 1.6 million AstraZeneca vaccine doses donated by the government of France were also delivered to the country.
Dr. Teodoro Herbosa, special adviser of the National Task Force against COVID-19 who welcomed the arrival of the Pfizer vaccines, announced that 4 million syringes for the Pfizer jobs will arrive on December 2.
Herbosa said that with the delivery of the syringes, more Pfizer vaccines can be administered.
He said that out of 195 countries, the Philippines is among five countries in the world that have implemented a massive vaccination program such as the National Vaccination Days.
“The fact that we have [more than] 4 million in two days, the fact that many people are lining up in the vaccination sites. I think that’s also great,” Herbosa said.
“I was happy to see the pictures of uniformed personnel, NGOs, and the religious sector, and all Filipinos joining together. It’s the bayanihan spirit in action,” he added.
As of December 1, a total of 145,407,920 COVID-19 vaccine doses from various manufacturers have been delivered to the country since February. (National Task Force against COVID-19)
