MANILA -- The construction of Samar Pacific Coastal Road (SPCR) Project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Northern Samar is now at 59 percent completion.
DPWH Undersecretary and Build Build Build Program Chief Implementer Emil K. Sadain reported to Acting Secretary Roger G. Mercado that construction of the 11.60 kilometer road project to connect the "Pacific Towns" of Laoang and Palapag, Northern Samar is catching up despite implementation snags with work progress disrupted by adverse weather condition, Covid-19 movement restrictions, and the insurgency problem.
Secretary Mercado with Undersecretary Sadain, Northern Samar Governor Edwin Marino C. Ongchuan, and Northern Samar 2nd District Congressman Jose “Jun” L. Ong Jr., on December 2, 2021 conducted an ocular inspection at the on-going Simora Bridge component of SPCR Project.
This SPCR which is part of the legacy project of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte administration can literally lead to peace with the accessibility to enhance the delivery of much needed goods and services that will stimulate economic growth and reduce the problem of isolation in which illegal armed groups and bandits thrive, said Undersecretary Sadain.
Secretary Mercado, who hails from Eastern Visayas, said that the project will help less accessible areas of Northern Samar to reach their potential as significant contributors to the region’s and country’s economic development.
The Samar Pacific Coastal Road Project begins at the Simora Junction, Laoang, and traverses to the remote villages of Laoang and Palapag. The project also covers the construction of three (3) bridges, namely: 161-meter Simora Bridge, 31-meter Jangtud 1 Bridge, and 69-meter Jangtud 2 Bridge.
