Quezon City (PIA) -- National Nutrition Council (NNC)-Mimaropa, in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government, will be convening all the punong barangays in the region for a dialogue enabling the nutrition devolution on December 6-7, 2021 via Zoom.

The event will also be attended by the members of the Barangay Nutrition Committee, Barangay Nutrition Scholars and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Chairpersons.

This regional dialogue aims to increase prioritization and planning for the local nutrition programs and address the limited budget for nutrition at the barangay level, through improving the recognition to the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) and its connection to Barangay Nutrition Action Plans (BNAP), identifying the roles and functions of the BNC and its members in the achievement of PPAN and BNAP targets, and the formulation or enhancement of their BNAP that contain clear goals and objectives, implementation details, plan for monitoring and evaluation and budgetary requirements.

With the implementation of the Mandanas-Garcia Supreme Court Ruling in 2022 and the full devolution of services according to EO 138, a good opportunity can be grasped for the barangays to further invest in nutrition.

Resource persons from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) units will be joining the event to further explain the nutrition implications of Mandanas-Garcia Ruling and concerns on the devolution transition plans of the barangays.

This regional dialogue is a sequel to the previously held 'Nutrition Devolution Dialogue' series, where the recent National Virtual Dialogue was conducted last October 4, 2021 and attended by 1,213 barangay captains. (NNC Mimaropa)
