OSBG aids sectoral groups in Belison and San Remigio, Antique

PASAY CITY -- Senator Christopher “Bong” Go sent his team to provide assistance to more struggling residents in Belison and San Remigio, Antique on Wednesday, December 8, as part of his commitment to help Filipinos nationwide overcome the pandemic.

In his video message, Go, who serves as the Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, urged eligible residents to get fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible to boost their body’s defenses and eventually help the country attain population protection leading to herd immunity.

The senator also reminded the public not to be complacent and to continue adhering to necessary health protocols even after being inoculated.

“Inuuna po namin ni Pangulong (Rodrigo) Duterte ang kalusugan at buhay po ng bawat Pilipino. Kailangan po namin ang disiplina at kooperasyon ng bawat isa,” said Go.

“Mga kababayan ko, ang target po natin ngayong taon ay population protection at sa susunod naman po ang herd immunity, ‘yung hindi na po kakalat ang sakit,” he added.

Go’s team organized the relief operation for 2,000 beneficiaries from various sectoral groups at the San Remigio Municipal Civic Center and Belison Municipal Gym. They distributed snacks and masks and provided select recipients new shoes, bicycles and computer tablets.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development also extended financial assistance through its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program.

Lastly, the Department of Trade and Industry and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority conducted assessments for potential beneficiaries of their respective livelihood programs.

Go also offered additional help to residents in need of medical attention, particularly those who have to undergo major operations. He reminded them that there is a Malasakit Center at the Angel X. Salazar Memorial General Hospital in San Jose de Buenavista available for their medical needs.

The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop that brings together the offices of the DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. It seeks to reduce a hospital bill to the lowest amount possible by covering services and expenses, such as laboratories, medicines and surgeries.

As Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, the senator has also supported the improvement of a public park in Belison; purchase of multicabs in Laua-an; expansion of the water system in Libertad; construction of a bridge in Patnongon; purchase of an ambulance and construction of a flood control structure in San Jose; and construction of a covered court in San Remigio, among others.

On December 7, Go also aided 2,000 struggling residents in Hamtic and Sibalom, Antique. All activities were conducted in strict compliance with government health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19. (OSBG)
