PASAY CITY -- Following the relief operations on December 6 and 7 for residents of Catarman, Guinsiliban and Sagay, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go’s outreach team continued delivering assistance to struggling residents from Mahinog and Mambajao, Camiguin from December 8 to 10 as the senator remains committed to assist vulnerable communities nationwide amid the global health crisis.
In a video message, Go vowed to pursue more initiatives to alleviate poverty and help struggling Filipinos overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Sa aking mga kababayan, ‘wag kayong mag-alala dahil malalampasan din natin ang pandemyang ito basta’t nagtutulungan at nagmamalasakit tayo. Gagawin namin ang lahat ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa abot ng aming makakaya para tulungan kayo,” he reassured.
All distributions were held at the Congressman Pedro Palarca-Romualdo Grandstand in Mambajao where Go’s team handed out masks and snacks to a total of 10,800 residents. They also gave new pairs of shoes and bicycles to select recipients and provided computer tablets to others.
Moreover, a team from the Department of Social Welfare and Development extended financial assistance to the residents while the Department of Trade and Industry and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority determined potential beneficiaries for their respective livelihood and scholarship grants.
As Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go offered additional assistance to those in need of medical care. He also advised them to visit the nearest Malasakit Centers at Northern Mindanao Medical Center and J.R. Borja General Hospital in Cagayan de Oro City should they need help settling their hospital bills.
The Malasakit Center brings together the offices of the DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office to reduce a patient’s hospital bill to the lowest amount possible by covering various patient services and expenses.
Finally, he thanked the local officials for their dedication and commitment to serve their constituents.
To increase economic opportunities and boost the island’s development, Go, as a Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, has also supported the construction of a two-storey multipurpose building and two-storey isolation unit/evacuation center in Guinsiliban; acquisition of an ambulance unit and a dump truck for the local government of Mahinog; and the construction of an evacuation center in Sagay.
“Kami po ni Pangulong Duterte ay patuloy na magseserbisyo sa inyong lahat, dahil para sa amin ang serbisyo po sa tao ay serbisyo po 'yan sa Diyos,” he ended. (OSBG)
