MANDALUYONG CITY -- The Philippine Red Cross (PRC), led by Chairman and CEO Senator Richard "Dick" Gordon, remains at the forefront of responding to Super Typhoon Odette, deploying three medical tents bound for Siargao Island yesterday morning, December 27, 2021.
"As the country's premier humanitarian organization, the Philippine Red Cross(PRC) continues to innovate and plan ahead. Every day our volunteers and staff work round the clock as they continue building our capacity for us to best serve our mission; helping our people, especially the most vulnerable," Chairman and CEO Senator Dick Gordon.
The PRC has previously set up medical tents to support overcrowded hospitals since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the past, these medical tents also supported communities that were affected by dengue, cholera, diarrhea.
Now, the medical tents will provide an additional 30 bed capacity to Siargao District Hospital where they have been managing diarrhea patients. Additionally, the PRC will also send volunteer nurses and a health logistician from PRC Quezon City Chapter.
The three medical tents bound for Siargao Island have departed from Davao City yesterday noon and are currently at the PRC Agusan del Norte-Butuan Chapter's warehouse loading relief items. Later today, a barge will ferry them to Siargao Island. The PRC Health Services have deployed three Medical Tents, 30 cot beds, five tables, ten chairs, and twenty boxes containing IV fluids, linens, and pillows (with pillowcases).
"As we embody our mandate of being Always First, Always Ready, and Always There, only together we can have the power to uplift the most vulnerable," added Gordon. (Philippine Red Cross)
