Gordon: Red Cross gives multi-purpose cash grants to help families recover from TY Maring

MANDALUYONG CITY -- Two months after the onslaught of Typhoon Maring (international name: Kompasu) in La Union and other parts of the country, residents have yet to recover from the damage brought by it.

On December 28, 2021, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC),  conducted a multi-purpose cash grant (MPCG) distribution in the province of La Union and Ilocos Sur to 628 most vulnerable families greatly affected by Typhoon Maring.

MPCG amounting to P2,198,000 has been distibuted  to help the residents in the Municipality of San Juan, La Union, and Municipality of Sta Cruz, Ilocos Sur.

Meanwhile, the 2nd batch of the MPCG is set on the 2nd or 3rd week of January to assist 1,364 families, in the municipalities of Lucia and Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur, Municipality of Bacnotan and San Gabriel, La Union, Municipality of Bucay and Langilang, Abra.

PRC has been consistent in providing aid to the most vulnerable after Typhoon Maring struck the province of La Union that caused widespread flooding and destruction of homes.

“Muli tayong nagbabalik sa probinsya ng La Union at Ilocos Sur upang mamahagi ng cash grant sa mga naapektuhan ng bagyo. Maliit lamang ito ngunit sana ay makatulong sa pang araw-araw na gastusin at makapag simula ulit,” PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon said.

La Union and Ilocos Sur are not new when it comes to PRC responses, in the past, through the leadership of Chairman Dick Gordon, PRC was able to conduct hot meals distribution, livelihood programs, non-food item distribution, shelter building, and hygiene promotions, and responding to Typhoons Pepeng (2009), Ondoy (2009), Juan (2010), Pedring (2011), Mario (2014), Lando (2015), Lawin (2016), and Ompong (2018).

“Hope begins with the Red Cross. PRC is committed to alleviating human suffering and uplifting the dignity of the people. We are with you until you get your lives back,” Chairman Gordon said. (Philippine Red Cross)
