MANDALUYONG CITY -- Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and CEO Sen. Richard "Dick" Gordon will visit the province of Bohol on January 06, 2021, to provide food and non-food items to families greatly affected by Super Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai).
Chairman Gordon will lead the non-food item distribution at Ubay, Bohol. PRC will distribute two tarpaulins and a shelter toolkit to 315 families to help them recover from the typhoon.
PRC will then proceed to Talibon, where 145 families will each receive two tarpaulins, a sleeping kit, and two jerry cans. During the distribution, PRC will also conduct hot meals distribution, provision of water through the water tankers, and will establish a first aid station.
At the height of Typhoon Odette, Chairman Gordon ordered the deployment of the humanitarian caravan in Bohol to provide immediate assistance to typhoon-affected families. The humanitarian caravan contains a Water Tanker, Food truck, Ambulance, Payloader, 6x6 Truck, two generator sets, 5,000 face masks, 5,000 Relief sando bags, 1,000 relief eco-bags, 10,000 ready to eat canned goods, and medicines.
As part of the Typhoon Odette response, PRC established the welfare desk, hot meals distribution, clearing operations, water distribution, hygiene promotion, and contact tracing. Chairman Gordon also deployed additional water tankers to provide a continuous supply of clean water to prevent cases like diarrhea from happening.
Since the start of operations in Bohol, PRC has provided multipurpose cash grants to 300 individuals, distributed 5,303 hot meals, psychosocial support to 1,251 individuals, child-friendly space to 3, 485 individuals, and distributed 211,000 clean water.
“Patuloy natin isinasagawa ang mga humanitarian interventions natin mula sa paghahanda hanggang sa relief operations. Tayo ay namahagi ng mga non-food items upang matulungan ang ating mga kakabayan na magkaroon sila ng temporary shelters at maibalik ang dignidad sa tao” Chairman Gordon said.
Last 2014, through the leadership of Chairman Gordon, PRC turned over 2,050 houses to families affected by the Bohol Earthquake 2014. (Philippine Red Cross)
