DOST gives nutribun for San Juan milk, meat processors

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Siquijor Provincial Science and Technology Center handed out packs of nutribun to milk and meat processors in Cangmunag and Catulayan, San Juan, Siquijor on Jan. 11.

As DOST-assisted beneficiaries, the members of the Kababayen-an Alang Sa Paglambo sa Nasudnong Industriya sa Gatas (KAPANIG), Women’s Association Nurturing Development for Economic Recovery (WONDER), and Catulayan Credit Multi-purpose Cooperative (CCMPC) enjoyed being the recipients in the distribution of the buns for those affected by typhoon Odette.

KAPANIG, an association for producing dairy and milk products, suffered a loss of income as its products had to be dispensed with due to a week-long electric power disruption.

Meat processors of WONDER and CCMPC also reported damage for the same reason.

Engr. Mario de la Peña, DOST Siquijor provincial director, addressed the beneficiaries with a little brush of humor.  “I know most of you are already 'young once.' This nutribun is special because it is made to make you feel younger, and better still, to make you look younger by ten years.”

The afternoon saw a warm exchange of smiles and gratefulness.  One member said:  “Wala na ko kaayo tango pero makadulot rako ani nga nutribun.  Lami og humok siya kan-on.  Ma-feel nako nga naa gyud daghan nga gatas gisagol  (I am losing teeth already but I find this nutribun just perfect for my mouth to chew.  It tastes milky good and is soft.)"
