PSA-RSSO 8 to conduct first national survey on ICT focused on women and girls

TACLOBAN CITY -- The Philippine Statistics Authority – Regional Statistical Services Office VIII (PSA-RSSO 8) enjoins the public to support the Women and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Development Index (WIDI) Survey to be conducted on 31 January to 26 February 2022. 

This is the first national survey on ICT focused on women and girls. This survey is a collaborative effort of PSA and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

A total of 2,722 sample households in Eastern Visayas will be interviewed by hired data collectors through Computer-Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI). 

The WIDI aims to gather baseline data that will capture the situation of women and girls’ ICT access, use, and skills. It hopes to provide a more in-depth study on how ICTs are used to expand women’s social, economic and livelihood opportunities.   

The results of the survey, scheduled to be released in October 2022, will serve as inputs in the formulation of ICT-based policies and programs to help women and girls in the productive use of ICTs and likewise address the gender digital divide. Major data items that will be gathered include demographic characteristics, ICT access, use, and skills; cybersecurity, data privacy, and online safety; AND digital economy and e-commerce.

The mandate of PSA to conduct surveys emanate from Republic Act 10625 or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013, which states that PSA is primarily responsible for all national censuses and surveys, sectoral statistics, consolidation of selected administrative recording systems, and compilation of national accounts.

The PSA adheres and commits to the confidentiality of information as stipulated in Section 26 of RA 10625 (Confidentiality of Information) and Section 8 of RA 10173 (Data Privacy Act). All data obtained from the survey will be released only in summary form or statistical tables.

The office assures the public that required public health and safety measures to contain COVID-19 will be strictly observed in all phases of field operations. All PSA personnel and hired statistical researchers who will be deployed are in good health condition, fully vaccinated, and will strictly follow precautionary measures against COVID-19, such as wearing of face mask and face shield, physical distancing, proper hygiene and sanitation, and wearing of PSA ID. They shall likewise observe all protocols laid down by the Local Government Units (LGUs).
