TACLOBAN CITY -- The Department of Public Works and Highways - Tacloban City District Engineering Office (DPWH-TCDEO) has completed 56 of 67 projects under the 2021 Regular Infrastructure Program with a total amount of P1.033 billion resulting in a 94.11% accomplishment rate as of December 30, 2021.
The engineering district highlights two of many projects that have significantly caused great impact to the infrastructure development of the city. Among these projects is the replacement of Mangonbangon Bridge I along Naga-Naga Anibong Road. In the amount of P38-million sourced from the General Appropriations Act of 2021, the bridge has been upgraded from a 2-lane to a 4-lane bridge which also includes reblocking of 1614.73 sq.m. and asphalt overlay of 1516.50 sq.m. The upgrade would provide a durable bridge that could carry heavy loads, connect people, transport, and deliver goods and services.
In the efforts of building a calamity resilient community, the TCDEO was able to successfully complete the construction of a safe and hazard adaptive evacuation centre. The project features the construction of 17 rooms inclusive of a clinic, admin office, prayer room, storage room and kitchen.
The evacuees will also be well accommodated providing them with facilities such as breastfeeding room, conjugal rooms and play room. Furthermore, there are enough comfort rooms for all evacuees for the building has shower stalls and toilet and bath for male, female, and persons with disability. It had a total budget of P33.8-million under the General Appropriations Act of 2021.
Other projects include the improvement and rehabilitation of Tacloban City Convention Centre (Astrodome), access road leading to the New Passenger Terminal Building (DZR Airport), road leading to La Villa Francisco Mountain Resort, installed road studs, constructed two buildings under TIKAS Projects, constructed/rehabilitated 22 flood control projects, and constructed/widened/improved/ rehabilitated/preventively maintained 15.669 lane kilometre roads along national roads.
Meanwhile, among the 18 For-Later-Release (FLR) projects seven (7) have been completed, 10 are still ongoing, and one has not yet started.
Despite the surge of pandemic cases, 2021 had been a consistent and continuous year for infrastructure development under the Build, Build, Build Program ushering the implementation of infrastructure projects beneficial to the community. DPWH-TCDEO continues to be constant in creating projects centred on addressing infrastructure gap, creating jobs, and improving the lives of the Filipino people. (DPWH-TCDEO)
