BAYBAY CITY -- Regional Director Allan S. Borromeo of the Department of Public Works and Highways 8 (DPWH-8) turned over on January 14, a P35-M evacuation center project in Barangay Bunga, Abuyog, Leyte, to the Local Government Unit of Abuyog.
Director Borromeo was assisted by Assistant District Engineer Lyndel P. Jabines of the DPWH Leyte 5th District Engineering Office. Also in attendance were Congressman Carl Nicolas L. Cari, Abuyog Vice Mayor Octavio Traya Jr., municipal councilors, barangay captains and kagawads, as well as former Baybay City Mayor Michael L. Cari.
In his welcome address, Mayor Traya expressed gratitude for being a recipient of the said evacuation center completed by the DPWH.
The evacuation center aims to provide a safe place to shelter communities from potential risks during disasters and calamities. It will also serve as a multipurpose center where varied activities will be held.
“Because the 5th Congressional District of Leyte is always included in the route of typhoons, we wish to add more evacuation centers in each municipality,” said Congressman Cari in his speech.
In another message, Director Borromeo assured his support to the Leyte 5th District’s plans and project proposals that will benefit the majority of the constituents. (GTT/DPWH - Leyte 5th DEO)
