TACLOBAN CITY -- The region’s total number of constructions has increased by 11.1% from 1,319 constructions recorded in the 3rd quarter of 2020 to 1,465 constructions in the same quarter in 2021.

The number of non-residential building constructions surged by 40.5%, from 232 constructions in the 3rd quarter of 2020 to 326 constructions in the same period of 2021.

Residential buildings grew by 10.1%, posting 1,010 constructions in the 3rd quarter of 2021 from 917 constructions in the 3rd quarter of 2020. On the other hand, the combined number of additions/alterations and repair of buildings declined from 170 constructions in the 3rd quarter of 2020 to 129 constructions during the quarter in review, a decrease of 24.1%.

Residential buildings comprised more than two-thirds or 68.9% of the total constructions in the region, while non-residential buildings and additions/alterations and repairs accounted for 22.3% and 8.8%, respectively.

The total value of constructions in the region during the 3rd quarter of 2021 was estimated at P3.4 billion. This figure is 87.2% higher than the P1.8 billion total value of constructions in the same quarter of 2020.

The aggregate value of non-residential buildings more than doubled (158.0%), from P0.7 billion in the 3rd quarter of 2020 to P1.8 billion during the quarter in review. An increase by 79.9% was also recorded in the total value of additions/alterations and repairs of existing structures. Its value rose to P189.9 million in the 3rd quarter of 2021 from P105.6 million in the same period of 2020. Total value of residential buildings grew by 39.9%, from P1 billion in the 3rd quarter of 2020 to P1.4 billion in the 3rd quarter of 2021.

Non-residential buildings’ value of construction comprised more than half or 52.4% of the total value of constructions in the region. The value of construction of residential buildings contributed 42.0%. Meanwhile, additions/alterations and repairs accounted for only 5.5% of the region’s total value of constructions during the 3rd quarter of 2021.

Average cost of construction per square meter was estimated at P10,462for residential buildings and P9,128 for non-residential buildings.
