Red Cross sends relief items to Odette-stricken Dinagat Islands

MANILA -- Several weeks after Super Typhoon Odette wrought havoc to thousands of communities, the Philippine Red Cross(PRC), led by Chairman and CEO Senator Dick Gordon, continues to be the first to respond in providing urgent humanitarian assistance to the affected provinces.

Last January 31, 2022, PRC volunteers and staff sailed by boat to coastal municipalities in one of the hardest-hit provinces, the Dinagat Islands, located northeast off Mindanao, bringing food packs and relief items to the devastated community.

In the Municipality of Basalisa, PRC provided food packs for 310 families, while another team provided much-needed relief goods for 183 families.

Last February 1, 2022, volunteers also traveled to Barangay Cabayawan as they prepared hot meals for 330 individuals, food items for 310 individuals, and psychosocial medical treatment for 711 individuals.

"We must continue to expend and even exhaust all efforts to help the victims of super typhoon Odette... this should not become a forgotten disaster," reiterates PRC Chairman and CEO Senator Dick Gordon. (Philippine Red Cross)
