Army Brigade in Sarangani, Davao Occidental gets new commander


MALUNGON, Sarangani -- 10th Infantry “Agila” Division’s 1002nd Infantry “Bagwis” Brigade installs its new Commander Colonel Alexei C Musñgi replacing BGen Potenciano C Camba in a Change of Command ceremony last February 3, 2022, held at 1002nd Infantry Brigade Headquarters in Malungon, Sarangani Province.

Since his assumption, Army Brigade Commander in Sarangani, North Cotabato and Davao Occidental area on May 5, 2020, BGen Camba, a member of Philippine Military Academy’s “Sambisig” Class of 1991 has neutralized 157 regular Communist New People’s Army Terrorists with the surrender of 446 Milisyang Bayan, 296 Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad, and 4,237 members of the Underground Mass Organizations.

Also, under BGen Camba’s helm, Bagwis Brigade scored numerous war materiel that includes 88 recovered and 119 surrendered firearms, 65 Improvised Explosive Devices.

Meanwhile, 1002nd Infantry Brigade’s effort in its counter-insurgency campaign has resulted in the dismantling of three units of the New People’s Army namely; Pulang Bagani Company (PBC) of SMRC, and Guerilla Front’s ALIP and TALA of the Far South Mindanao Region.

With the implementation of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict projects alongside local chief executives in its area of operation, 1002nd Brigade under BGen Camba supervised 334 former rebels in 8 different deradicalization programs.

Financial livelihood and immediate assistance were also distributed to 1,417 former rebels in the area of Sarangani, Davao Occidental, and North Cotabato.

Now, BGen Camba will sit as the incoming Deputy Commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command based in Davao City.

Meanwhile, Col Alexei Musñgi, a proud member of Philippine Military Academy “Maalab” Class of 1993 and a decorated officer from Metro Manila is the former Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations, G3 at the Headquarters Philippine Army and holds several special duty positions in the Philippine Army. He is also a former Commanding Officer of 48IB, 7ID in Central Luzon and Chief Operations of the 6th Infantry Division based in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

Presiding General and Acting Division Commander BGen Allan D Hambala in his speech said that with BGen Camba’s leadership, confronted CTG resulted in the destruction of mass bases and allies, cut of extortion schemes, and continuously reduced their manpower and firepower.

“It’s apparent that BGen Camba and his team have contributed vastly to 10ID’s accomplishment. With his good leadership, competence, combat decisiveness, and initiative, he fully maximized all available AFP assets in defeating the enemy and made him achieve far beyond targets and timelines.” BGen Hambala added.

Meanwhile, BGen Hambala also said that with Col Musñgi’s good service reputation in his previous units, scholastic achievements, and sterling leadership, the command has high hopes that under the new leadership of 1002nd Brigade, Agila Division’s mission will be effectively and swiftly be achieved.

Also present during the ceremony were several local chief executives of Sarangani Province, Davao Occidental, and national government agencies alongside several members of PMA “Sambisig” Class of 1991. (DPAO-10ID)
