Support small businesses to achieve economic recovery — Bong Go stresses as his team aids displaced workers in Sto. Tomas and Rosario, La Union

PASAY CITY -- On Monday, February 7, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go’s team organized a series of distribution activities in La Union to provide aid to displaced workers in the towns of Sto. Tomas and Rosario.

In his video message, Go pledged to support more initiatives that would help micro-enterprises as he underscored the significance of small businesses in the economic recovery of the country.

The senator’s staff distributed masks and meals to a total of 176 displaced workers at the Multipurpose Hall in Sto. Tomas and Municipal Covered Court in Rosario. They also gave computer tablets to select individuals.

Meanwhile, a team from the Department of Social Welfare and Development provided livelihood assistance under its Sustainable Livelihood Program to help the displaced workers start their own business ventures that may later sustain their family’s needs.

Dapat turuan at tulungan natin sila mabigyan ng kapital,” Go said.

Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go also offered to further assist those with medical concerns and encouraged them to visit the Malasakit Center at Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC) in San Fernando City.

Primarily authored and sponsored by Go, the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019 mandates all hospitals administered and managed by the Department of Health and the Philippine General Hospital to establish their own centers that would provide particularly poor and indigent patients convenient assistance to medical assistance programs.

The center is a one-stop shop that streamlines the process of acquiring medical assistance from concerned agencies, including DSWD, DOH, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

The senator has also sponsored several bills increasing the bed capacity of local hospitals including ITRMC from 300 to 800 beds.

Go then appealed to the eligible residents to take part in the national vaccination program, saying, “Pakiusap po namin ni Pangulong (Rodrigo) Duterte magpabakuna na ho kayo.

Finally, Go acknowledged the local leaders for their dedication to serve their constituents during these unprecedented times.

To further boost regional development and economic growth, Go, who is also Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, supported the acquisition of a truck, an ambulance, and a multipurpose vehicle for the local government of Bangar; construction and improvement of roads in Aringay, Bagulin, Burgos, Naguilan, Rosario and San Gabriel; construction of multipurpose centers in Caba and San Fernando City; construction of slope protection in Bacnotan; and acquisition of multipurpose vehicles and rehabilitation of a multipurpose building in Balaoan.

Previously, the senator’s office extended similar support to micro-entrepreneurs, typhoon victims, farmers and hog raisers in San Fernando City and the towns of Sudipen and Bacnotan. (OSBG)
