Bong Go hails gov’t efforts of enhancing livelihood and spurring development in rural communities as DSWD provides support in Oriental Mindoro

PASAY CITY -- Senator Christopher “Bong” Go applauded the efforts of the Duterte Administration to create livelihood opportunities and alleviate poverty in underserved communities during the turnover of five infrastructure subprojects in Oriental Mindoro on February 16.

With a total budget of nearly P8 million, the subprojects were built through the Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan–Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services: Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay (KALAHI-CIDSS KKB) project of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

These will benefit the people of the municipality of Gloria, which is known for its strong agricultural background and products.

“Sa lahat na naging bahagi sa tagumpay ng mga proyektong ito, maraming salamat sa inyong pagseserbisyo sa ating bayan at sa pagsisigurong walang Pilipino ang maiiwan sa ating paglalakbay patungo sa mas maganda at matiwasay na kinabukasan,” Go said in a video message during the ceremony held at the Barangay Macario Adriatico Covered Court.

“Congratulations to the DSWD 4-B … Thank you to the men and women behind the DSWD KALAHI-CIDSS program as well as to the local government units for working together for our poverty reduction program through the community-driven projects that we are celebrating today,” he continued.

The recently completed subprojects include the concreting of access roads in Barangays Alma Villa, Balete, Maligaya and Tambong; and construction of a Unit Three classroom at the Melicio D. Cantos Memorial Elementary School in Brgy. Macario Adriatico.

KALAHI-CIDSS is a community-driven development project of the national government which aims to empower local communities by improving people’s participation in local governance and the design and implementation of poverty reduction projects.

By enhancing people’s participation, the government ensures that the community-based subprojects reflect local needs and that the services are delivered to the intended recipients. It also increases accountability and transparency in the use of public funds and internal governance processes.

As the lead agency in social protection, the DSWD is tasked to oversee all KALAHI-CIDSS subprojects which are designed to alleviate poverty and contribute to the government’s efforts to mitigate the adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To conclude, the senator reaffirmed his and President Rodrigo Duterte’s shared commitment to advancing the welfare of the people of Oriental Mindoro. He thanked the local government officials and community volunteers in attendance, headed by Gloria Mayor German Rodegerio.

“Patuloy po ang aming pagsuporta ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa mga programa gaya nito na may layuning makapagbigay ng lakas sa ating mga LGU at makapag-abot ng tulong sa ating mga mamamayan. Once again, congratulations on the success of these projects. Maraming salamat at mabuhay kayong lahat,” said Go.

As Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, the lawmaker has also supported numerous initiatives that aim to accelerate the social and economic advancement of the province.

They include the construction of farm-to-market roads in Bulalacao, Bansud, Gloria, Pola and Socorro; construction of multi-purpose buildings in Bongabong, and Bulalacao; construction of potable water system in Socorro and Pinamalayan; acquisition of multi-purpose vehicles in Pola; and acquisition of medical equipment for the local government of Bongabong.

He also pushed for the establishment of the Malasakit Center at the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Hospital in Calapan City, in addition to conducting relief activities in low-income and marginalized communities impacted by the pandemic, disasters and other crisis situations. (OSBG)
