NAVAL, Biliran -- Palay production in the province of Biliran reached 19,137 metric tons (MT) during the fourth quarter of 2021. This figure is 7.84% higher compared to its production of 17,746 MT during the same quarter of 2020.

By ecosystem, irrigated palay accounted for all palay production for both reference periods. There was no reported production of rainfed palay.

Area harvested for palay increased by 8.69% during the fourth quarter of 2021, recording a total of 4,438 hectares from 4,083 hectares during the same quarter of 2020. All area harvested for palay for both reference quarters were for irrigated palay.

Given the volume of production and area harvested for palay, the resulting yield was recorded at 4.31 MT per hectare during the fourth quarter of 2021. This figure is lower by 0.92% than the reported yield of 4.35 MT per hectare during the same quarter of 2020.

By ecosystem, irrigated palay yielded the same figure with the total provincial yield for palay while the rainfed palay registered no yield at all during the fourth quarter of 2020 and 2021. (PSA Biliran)
