Red Cross continues to aid the most vulnerable in Dinagat Islands

MANDALUYONG CITY -- The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) continues to aid the most vulnerable affected by Super Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai) through the distribution of Shelter Repair Kits and Hygiene Kits.

Typhoon Odette was a Category 5 storm, one of the strongest typhoons to hit the Philippines, wreaking havoc in Southern Luzon, Visayas, and the Mindanao Region last December 2021 leaving thousands of families homeless.

PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon ordered the distribution of 640 Jerry Cans to 320 families in Brgy. Melgar, Municipality of Basilisa, Dinagat Islands. PRC also supplied 550 Corrugated Galvanized Iron sheets (CGI) and 55 Shelter & Tool Kits to Brgy. San Juan, Municipality of Loreto.

“Tatlong buwan makalipas ang hagupit ng bagyong Odette, pero hindi natin pababayaan ang mga apektado ng bagyo sa Dinagat Island. Laging handang tumulong ang Philippine Red Cross upang kayo ay makabangaon at makatayo sa sariling mga paa,” Sen. Dick Gordon said.

Since the start of PRC Odette operations in Dinagat Island alone, the humanitarian organization has already distributed 929 food items, 368 hygiene kits, 736 sleeping kits, 688 jerry cans, provided psychosocial support to 1,022 individuals, and 330 hot meals. (Philippine Red Cross)
