NIA Mimaropa to inaugurate 890M Bongabong River Irrigation Project

QUEZON CITY, 22 March (PIA) – The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Mimaropa will inaugurate this month the P890M Bongabong River Irrigation Project in Oriental Mindoro.

The Bongabong River Irrigation Project, one of the big-ticket projects of NIA in the region, has a service area of 6,000 hectares with a 5,500 cubic meters design which will benefit about 3,000 farmer-beneficiaries and stakeholders in the municipalities of Bongabong, Roxas and Mansalay.

Began in 2017, the construction of the project includes the intake structure with over 41 kilometers of the main canal and 45 kilometers of lateral canals, complete with irrigation structures and facilities wich were constructed since 2012 generating numerous jobs for the residents in the area.

Currently, the project serves as a dependable supplemental source of water for the 2,095 hectares of rice fields from various existing communal irrigation systems in the area.  This irrigation system has also generated 4,152 hectares of potential irrigable area.

Aside from Bongabong RIP, 19 other irrigation projects are scheduled for inauguration this month.  Regional Manager William P. Ragodon ensures that implementation of these projects is in accordance with NIA’s vision to provide efficient irrigation service for the inclusive growth of the countryside and in the improvement of the farmers quality of life.
