The Office of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go once again delivered assistance to thousands of struggling residents in Negros Occidental, this time in Enrique B. Magalona town and the cities of Talisay and Silay on Thursday, April 7.
The relief operations followed the series of distributions that the senator’s team conducted just the day before for various sectoral groups in Toboso, Manapla and Cadiz City.
Go’s team grouped the 3,000 beneficiaries into smaller batches at the Barangay Zone 2 Covered Court in Talisay City, Silay City Public Plaza Covered Court, and E.B. Magalona Municipal Gym before handing out snacks and masks. In addition, they gave shoes and computer tablets to select individuals.
Meanwhile, several agencies were also in attendance to extend separate assistance. The Department of Social Welfare and Development provided financial aid while the Department of Trade and Industry and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority assessed potential recipients of their respective livelihood and scholarship programs.
The senator then reminded the beneficiaries to continue adhering to the implemented COVID-19 preventive measures. Go underscored that it is important for the public to continue cooperating with the government’s pandemic efforts as this would significantly help hasten the nation’s economic recovery.
Go, as Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, also reminded the beneficiaries that they may visit Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City for their health concerns, where there is a Malasakit Center ready to help them with their hospital bills.
The center is a one-stop shop where poor and indigent patients can conveniently avail of the medical assistance programs by concerned agencies, such as the DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.
Since the first Malasakit Center was launched in 2018, there are now 151 centers nationwide that have assisted over three million Filipinos across the country. Go is the principal author and sponsor of the Malasakit Centers Act.
