Solo parents in Biñan City, Laguna receive support from Bong Go as he continues to advocate for their welfare and protection

PASAY CITY -- The Office of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go delivered much-needed assistance to solo parents in Biñan City, Laguna on Wednesday, April 20.

During the relief activity at the Umbria 180 Events and Sports Hall, Go encouraged the solo parents to take full advantage of the livelihood grants from the Department of Social Welfare and Development. He reminded them to use the grants wisely so they can soon have a steady source of income to provide for the needs of their families.

“Maraming salamat sa DSWD para sa kanilang Sustainable Livelihood Program. Isa ito sa mga programa ng gobyerno na naglalayon magbigay suporta sa mga Pilipino upang makapagsimula kayo ng sarili niyong hanapbuhay,” remarked Go in his video message.

“Mga kababayan, gamitin niyo ang pera sa tama. Mas masarap sa pakiramdam ‘pag pinagpaguran natin ang ating kinikita. Gamitin niyo ang magiging kita niyo para sa inyong mga pamilya, lalung-lalo na ngayong nasa gitna tayo ng pandemya,” he continued.

Aside from the livelihood grants turned over to qualified solo parents by DSWD, the senator’s team also distributed meals and masks to 622 solo parents. Select individuals were also given shoes, phablets and bicycles.

Go then reassured the beneficiaries that he continues to push for the passage of a bill which will amend the Solo Parents’ Welfare Act of 2000 and allow the government to provide better support to single-parent households.

Filed in 2020, Senate Bill No. 1411, which Go co-authored and co-sponsored, mandates the development of a comprehensive package of social protection services for solo parents and their children that will include livelihood opportunities and counseling services. All employed solo parents will also be qualified to a seven-day parental leave with pay. The measure has already passed the third and final reading in the Senate on December 13.

As Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go offered additional assistance to those with health concerns and advised them to visit any of the two Malasakit Centers in the province located at General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital in San Pablo City and Laguna Medical Center in Santa Cruz.

As one of his first major legislative acts, Go primarily authored and sponsored the measure that became the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019. The centers make government medical assistance programs more accessible to poor and indigent Filipinos by bringing the concerned agencies under one roof, namely, the DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

Go, who is an adopted son of CALABARZON, thanked the local officials of the city for prioritizing the welfare and interests of their constituents, especially during these difficult times.

“Mga kababayan ko, ako po ang inyong Kuya Bong Go. Kasama si Pangulong (Rodrigo) Duterte ay handang magserbisyo po sa inyong lahat sa abot ng aming makakaya. Nandirito lang po kami na magseserbisyo po sa inyo at handang-handang magserbisyo po sa inyo sa anumang oras,” Go assured.

To further strengthen and improve the public service delivery in Biñan City, the senator helped secure funds for the improvement of drainage in Barangay Canlalay, concreting of local access roads in Brgy. Santo Niño, and construction of river protection structures in Brgys. Loma and Sto. Tomas.

He likewise supported the construction of multipurpose buildings in Cavinti, Liliw, Lumban, Majayjay, Pagsanjan, Pila, Sta. Cruz and Sta. Maria; construction of slaughterhouses in Mabitac, Nagcarlan and Pagsanjan; and construction of public markets in Liliw, Nagcarlan, Pagsanjan and Rizal.

Other projects Go supported are the construction of a farm-to-market road and a multipurpose covered court in Paete, construction of a drainage canal in Cabuyao City, repair of the primary road inside Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa City, and installation of street lights in Lumban and Magdalena. (OSBG)
