PASAY CITY -- Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, on Monday, April 25, sent assistance to more than a thousand vulnerable residents in Carcar City and Pilar in Camotes Islands, Cebu as part of his efforts to hasten the recovery of communities adversely hit by the pandemic and other crisis situations nationwide.
In his video message, the senator urged the eligible residents to get inoculated and boosted immediately to ensure that they are protected from COVID-19 and help their respective communities attain herd immunity.
Libre mani," he urged.
Go’s staff conducted the relief operations at Pilar Municipal Grounds in Camotes Islands and Perrelos Gymnasium in Carcar City where they distributed snacks and masks to 1,478 indigents. The teams also provided select individuals new pairs of shoes and phablets as well as bicycles.
To help them sustain their daily needs, a team from the Department of Social Welfare and Development also provided financial support to the residents through its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program.
Meanwhile, upon assessment, the Department of Trade and Industry and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority extended livelihood support and scholarship grants, respectively, to the qualified residents.
As Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go assured the beneficiaries that they may conveniently avail medical assistance from the government through any of the six Malasakit Centers in the province.
The center is a one-stop shop where Filipinos, particularly poor and indigent patients, can take advantage of the medical assistance programs from the DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
Go, who is the principal author and sponsor of the Malasakit Centers Act.
