Local road invites more guests to visit Eastern Samar’s famous tourist spot

BORONGAN CITY -- The famous Canhugas Nature Park in Hernani, Eastern Samar is now more reachable because of the concrete road that leads to it from the national highway.

The tourism road is a project of the Department of Public Works and Highways - Eastern Samar District Engineering Office (DPWH-ESDEO) under the Convergence and Special Support Program implemented in two phases which started in 2019 and fully completed in 2021.

The road, leading to Canhugas, has a total length of 1.898 km. with a standard width of a national road and the total cost of the project amounting to P27.35 million.

Cleopatra Bantang, operations manager of Canhugas Nature Park, said in an interview that before the completion of the project, accessibility to the tourism sites is very challenging to the tourists because of rocky and muddy roads specially during rainy days.

“Han waray pa kasemento, makuri talaga an pagkanhi. Reklamo talaga han mga guest kay an ira mga sasakyan nagkakaruruba lalo na an mga gulong [With the absence of the road, coming here (Canhugas) is very challenging for our tourists. They always complain about the bumpy and muddy road that caused damage to their cars particularly the tire],” said Bantang.

She also said that despite the beauty of Canhugas, many guests were discouraged to visit the place before because aside from the inconvenience of the travel, there was no parking space near the tourist sites. Some of the guests left their vehicles alongside the national road.

“Pero yana nga okay na an kalsada, waray na problema, nadiretso na hira nganhi. Ada na gud hira mismo napark hit yungod hit resort [Now that the road is okay, they come here conveniently. They can now park their vehicles safely near the resort],” added by Bantang.

She said thank you to the national government for helping them to boost their tourism destination through the construction of the local road.

“Gidakui nga salamat talaga kay kon munisipyo la, diri man kaya han kwarta an funding, kinahanglan manla gihap hin national government nga pundo [Thank you very much, because without the help of the national government, the project will not be realized because of the limited fund of the LGU],” said Bantang.

Canhugas Nature Park is one of the top tourism spots in Eastern Samar and has become an extraordinary tourism destination because of its gigantic waves crushing onto large rock formations. The place will also give you phenomenal setting and will provide you a beautiful backdrop in your photoshoot that will surely capture more likes when posted in social media. (DPWH-ESDEO)
