MANDALUYONG CITY --The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) mobilized anew its basic services teams as Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) reported volcanic earthquakes in Mt. Bulusan from 5:00 am of June 10 to 5:00 am today, June 13. The local governments conducted pre-emptive evacuation of residents of affected barangays in Juban, Sorsogon. More than 22,000 persons from four (4) municipalities have been affected.
Since the phreatic eruption of Bulusan Volcano on June 5, the PRC Welfare Team has served hot meals to 1,704 individuals through the PRC Hot Meals on Wheels. The Trained staff and volunteers have provided psychosocial first aid (PFA) to 1,445 adults and child-friendly activities designed as PFA to 76 children. The Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Team has given hygiene education to 191 evacuees.
Meanwhile, the Safety Services Team has served 101 patients who had their blood pressure taken or had minor injuries. The PRC Emergency Medical Services Unit is on standby to treat and transport patients if needed.
PRC Chairman and CEO Senator Richard J. Gordon gave his assurance that the premier humanitarian organization is monitoring the situation 24/7 and is always ready to respond.
"Our volunteers on the ground regularly update me, and as always, the Red Cross is first to respond. Our volunteers and staff are always ready, because we are present in the communities," Chairman Gordon said.
Bulusan Volcano is stillunder alert level 1 and entry in the four-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone is not allowed. (Philippine Red Cross)
