NAVAL, Biliran -- The province of Biliran recorded a total corn production of 102.63 metric tons (MT) during the first quarter of 2022. This figure is higher by 35.04% than its production of 76.0 MT during the same quarter of 2021.
By ecosystem, white corn accounted for majority (83.17 %) of the provincial corn production during the first quarter of 2022. Its production increased by 12.32% from 76 MT to 85.36 MT. The remaining 16.83% comprised the yellow corn.
Area harvested for corn observed a 10.60% increase from 84 hectares during the first quarter of 2021 to 92.90 hectares during the first quarter of 2022.
By ecosystem, area harvested for white corn comprised about 81.22% of the total area harvested for corn during the first quarter of 2022 while about 18.78% were for yellow corn. Area harvested for white corn and yellow corn increased by 9.35% and 16.33%, respectively.
The province recorded a yield of 1.10 MT per hectare as a result of the volume of production and area harvested of corn during the first quarter of 2022. This figure is higher by 22.22% compared to its yield of 0.90 MT per hectare during the same
quarter of 2021.
By ecosystem, white corn recorded a yield of 1.13 MT per hectare during the first quarter of 2022 which is 2.73% higher compared to its yield of 1.10 MT per hectare during the same quarter of 2021.
