NAVAL, Biliran -- Palay production of this province reached 6,675 metric tons (MT) in the first quarter of 2022. This figure is 19.72% higher compared to its production of 5,575.50 MT during the same quarter of 2021.

By ecosystem, irrigated palay accounted for all palay production for both reference periods. There was no reported production of rainfed palay.

Area harvested for palay increased by 19.22% during the first quarter of 2022, recording a total of 1,538 hectares from 1,290 hectares during the same quarter of 2021. All area harvested for palay for both reference quarters were for irrigated palay resulting to an identical figure with the provincial area harvested for palay.

Given the volume of production and area harvested for palay, the resulting yield was recorded at 4.34 MT per hectare during the first quarter of 2022. This figure is higher by 0.46% than the reported yield of 4.32 MT per hectare during the same quarter of 2021.

By ecosystem, irrigated palay yielded the same figure with the total provincial yield for palay while the rainfed palay registered no yield at all during the first quarter of 2021 and 2022.
