QUEZON CITY -- Residents affected by the increasing number of typhoid fever cases in Cebu received financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through its Field Office VII, following the urgent directive of Secretary Erwin T. Tulfo.
As of July 6, some 313 patients were provided with Php 5,000 cash assistance under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) to cover their medical needs. The payouts were conducted by the Field Office in Barili, Cebu.
The Field Office also extended Php 10,000 burial assistance to the bereaved families of the patients who passed away due to the ailment. Likewise, Secretary Tulfo pledged to distribute additional aid worth Php 20,000 to the bereaved families during his virtual briefing with the Regional Directors on July 7.
Meanwhile, the Field Office is continuously coordinating with the Municipal Action Team in Barili to closely monitor the situation and to provide other interventions. As earlier directed by the Secretary, the DSWD is also currently facilitating the preparation of hygiene kits for the affected families.
The DSWD is ready to augment the resources of the concerned LGU to meet the needs of its affected constituents.
Meanwhile, the public is advised to take precautionary measures such as boiling water for drinking or doing water chlorination and cooking food well to prevent contamination. (DSWD)
