PCG Auxiliary reaffirms commitment to support PCG in delivering public service

QUEZON CITY- The Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) has reaffirmed its commitment to support the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in delivering public service today, 22 July 2022.

This occurred during the 37th PCGA National Convention held in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu from 22 to 23 July 2022, that coincided with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the PCG’s civilian volunteer arm.

During the event, PCG Commandant, CG Admiral Artemio M Abu expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the men and women of the PCGA whom he considered as MODERN-DAY HEROES for offering their time, talent, and treasure to helping save lives and properties, and preserving the country’s rich marine resources.

“The past years were particularly challenging for all Filipinos, as the country battled with an unseen and deadly enemy: the COVID-19 virus. It was safer to stay home and limit mobility, but even under these circumstances, the PCGA chose to extend help to others,” CG Admiral Abu said.

“Many of you stood with us at the frontlines – offering health services, supporting government initiatives, and donating vitamins, hygiene supplies, and other necessities to our kababayans,” he added. For his part, PCGA National Director, Auxiliary Vice Admiral Manuel Luis Idquival reaffirmed the PCGA’s dedication to stay as reliable public service partners of the PCG who bear their ranks with value, respect, and dignity.

“Rest assured that the men and women of the PCGA will aspire to become symbols of hope and pride of our great nation. You can trust your civilian volunteer arm – always ready and available to provide the PCG with needed augmentation – may it be through manpower, expertise, or resources. This is our allegiance to the Coast Guard and the Filipino nation,” Auxiliary Vice Admiral Idquival stated.

Meanwhile, the PCG Commandant also recognized how the PCGA remained consistent in supporting the PCG’s efforts over the past 50 years toward the vision for safer and cleaner seas through their active participation in coastal clean-up drives and scuba diving operations for marine environmental preservation.

“Our 20,000 PCGA officers and members also serve as our FORCE MULTIPLIERS in various parts of the country, assisting in search and rescue missions, particularly during the typhoon season; promoting the maintenance of aids to navigation; and participating in humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations,” CG Admiral Abu furthered.

“You have touched millions of hearts and helped improve millions of lives, and I can see no other way to better mark your 50th year than that,” he expressed.

“The PCG is committed to delivering its part in this partnership, and we are confident that we can count on the PCG Auxiliary to do the same – as it always has. There is a reason why volunteers like you receive no compensation— and that is because your value is priceless,” the Coast Guard Commandant shared. (PCGA)
