PH Red Cross continues to help earthquake-hit Abra, reaches severely affected communities

MANDALUYONG CITY -- The Philippine Red Cross (PRC), under the leadership of Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon, continued to provide much-needed assistance to the affected communities in earthquake-hit Abra.

In response to the declaration of a state of calamity in Abra, the PRC immediately distributed food items to 24 families in Suyo, Pidigan, 120 families in Zone 2, San Quintin, and 50 families to Ap-Ayapa, Villaviciosa. 265 hot meals were served in Barangay Suyo, Pidigan town and Barangays Lipcan and Sinalang in Bangued. PRC also distributed 1,064 liters of water to 48 families in Calaba, Bangued. The PRC First Aid and Welfare Station provided health services to 14 individuals.

The PRC continued to coordinate with the local government units of Peñarubia and Bucay to conduct its rapid disaster assessment and needs analysis and help more communities. “Laging handa ang Red Cross sa ganitong panahon. Tinitiyak natin na lahat ng naapektuhang komunidad sa probinsya ng Abra ay mararating at matutulungan,” Chairman Gordon assured.

As of July 31, the PRC has deployed food trucks (5), water tankers (3), a wing van with hygiene kits, sleeping kits, and jerry cans, and a 6x6 truck.
