NAVAL, Biliran -- District Engineer Ferdinand A. Briones and Assistant District Engineer Alfredo L. Bollido of the Department of Public Works and Highways - Biliran District Engineering Office (DPWH-BDEO) conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing projects in the Municipality of Almeria on February 17.
One of the projects inspected is the ongoing construction of Bagongbong Flood Control with a P25-M budget under FY 2022 funding. This is prioritized to provide additional flood control structure/protection along Bagongbong River.
According to District Engineer Briones, the said project is designed to provide a structure that will avert flooding during heavy rains. The completion of the project will not only protect lives and properties of the residents living nearby, but it will also fend off the flood from damaging the adjoining ricfields.
Briones and Bollido also inspected the ongoing reconstruction of Bridge at Sitio Ilijan, Poblacion Almeria with a P50-M budget. This project was implemented under FY 2021 funding under “For Later Release” (FLR) allotment.
The said bridge was greatly damaged during typhoon Urduja in 2017. This was the only thoroughfare of the residents of Brgy. Salangi in going to Poblacion Almeria and to other neighboring barangays, especially to the capital town of Naval.
Presently, the residents are passing through a constructed spillway which becomes unpassable during heavy rains. The completion of this project will provide safe and convenient travel to the residents of Brgy. Salangi in going to Polacion Almeria as well as fast movement of their agricultural products.
DPWH-BDEO, headed by Briones, is committed to fast-track its ongoing projects and regularly conduct inspections to ensure that projects implemented in the district conforms to its plans and specifications. (DPWH-BDEO)
