Eastern Visayas posts $232.18 trade surplus in April 2022

TACLOBAN CITY -- The region’s total trade in goods in April 2022 amounted to USD 283.02 million. This indicated a year-on-year growth of 30.09% compared with the USD 217.55 million total trade in goods recorded in April 2021. 

The growth was attributed to the increase in the total value of both exports and imports. Total exports sales increased by 28.79% to USD 257.60 million in April 2022 from USD 200.01 in April 2021.

Meanwhile total import value increased by 44.91% to USD 25.42 million in April 2022 from USD 17.54 million in April 2021. Consequently, Eastern Visayas posted a trade surplus of USD 232.18 million in April 2022, up by 27.24% compared with the USD 182.47 million trade surplus in April 2021.

Eastern Visayas exported 160.82 million kilograms of goods in April 2022. The region’s main export commodity was copper and articles thereof. Its export sales reached USD 226.59 million or 87.96% of the total export sales in April 2022. Total exports to the People’s Republic of China registered at USD 122.28 million had the highest export value at 47.47% of the total export sales in
April 2022.  

Eastern Visayas imported 51.03 million kilograms of goods in April 2022. The bulk of imports was mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes commodity group. This was worth USD 17.87 million and accounted for 70.30% of the total import value in April 2022.

The highest import value in April 2022 was from the Republic of Korea at USD 12.12 million, which was almost half or 47.68% of the entire import value during the period. (PSA RSSO 8)
