PBBM off to Singapore after very productive state visit to Indonesia

MANILA -- President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos is set to fly to Singapore on Tuesday after his “very productive” state visit to Indonesia, Press Secretary Rose Beatrix “Trixie” Cruz-Angeles said.

“It was very productive, extremely so because the President did not expect that the talks between him and President Widodo would progress so rapidly in such a short time,” Cruz-Angeles said in a press briefing on Monday.

In a press statement, Marcos expressed enthusiasm to continue working on growing the Philippines’ long-standing relationship with Indonesia.

“So much so that in actual fact, our discussions progressed so rapidly that we, the President and I, have agreed to organize task forces already to meet and discuss even at a technical level, no longer at the political or the diplomatic level, but at a technical level, so as to be able to take a full advantage of the opportunities that we feel that are available to us and that we will need to exploit to succeed in the near future,” Marcos said.

On the second day of his state visit to Indonesia, the President laid a wreath at the Kalibata National Heroes Memorial Park.

“Doon nag-alay ng bulaklak ang ating Pangulo tungo sa pagkikilala ng pagkabayani ng mga nakalibing doon. Karamihan ng nakalibing ay mga lumaban para sa kasarinlan ng bayan na ito,” Cruz-Angeles said.

Marcos then proceeded to the Bogor Presidential Palace, where he was accorded a state welcome ceremony.

The President and First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos joined Indonesian President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo in a ceremonial tree planting.

After planting Pohon Kayu Ulin, the two leaders proceeded to the Palace Veranda for a talk.

During their bilateral meeting, Marcos said he and Widodo “had a very fruitful discussion just now with our quick tête-à-tête.”

After the discussion, Widodo hosted a state banquet for Marcos.

Marcos also had a roundtable meeting with Indonesian business leaders from a wide range of sectors, including energy, transportation, agriculture, and defense.

“He is happy for the interest that they are showing in the Philippine economy. As you know, this is part of his vision for economic recovery, and he also happily reported to them the general outcome of his agreements or his talks with President Widodo,” Cruz-Angeles said.

The President capped his second day in Indonesia with a tour to the Istiqlal Mosque. (PND)
