NAVAL, Biliran -- The provincial office of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) supported the promotion of Biliran Province State University - Food Research and Development Center (BiPSU-FRDC) to food processors of the province.
The activity was done at the BiPSU Hostel, Naval, Biliran on September 14.
One of the highlights of the activity was the conduct of an orientation on food safety to suman makers and coffee producers in the province.
Discussion on food safety is important as such knowledge could contribute in ensuring the quality and safety of the food products through the elimination or prevention of potential food hazards and contaminants.
The orientation was given by Juliet M. Aguirre (SRS I), a DOST-8 accredited subject matter specialist on food safety and Good Manufacturing Practices.
The BIPSU FRDC is jointly supported by DOST and DTI through their respective programs.
DOST considered the facility as a food innovation center that BIPSU can use for food production development and can be used for research and development and as a training facility.
DTI, on the other hand, promoted the Center as a Shared Facility to support the locally produced rice-based delicacy as well as coffee and cacao processing. (MMP/DOST Biliran)
