PALO, Leyte -- The Radyo Kausbawan in Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT), Palompon, Leyte held the induction and oath-taking ceremony for its Community Radio Council (CRC).
The Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program of the National Nutrition Council was born out of a need for a long-term and cost-efficient strategy to address the problem of hunger and malnutrition in the Philippines, through the use of radio which is the most available form of mass media.
The Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program involves the setting up of non-profit, non-partisan community radio stations and the training of broadcast personnel in areas of the country with high malnutrition prevalence and do not have easy access to broadcast media.
Nutriskwela Community Radio aims to empower the community through the dissemination of correct, relevant and up-to-date nutrition and health information, as well as educational and developmental information from all relevant sectors of the community, government agencies, and non-government agencies.
On the other hand, the Community Radio Council (CRC) is an independent council which serves as policy making and coordinating body of the community nutriskwela radio stations. It is a multi-sectoral body from various individuals and representatives from other sectors or group.
The CRC has recently conducted an election and has chosen their new set of officers and various committees. To date, the CRC officials were sworn into office to uphold integrity, transparency and accountability in the operation of the community nutriskwela radio stations. They are to monitor developmental radio programming to the best interest of the people of the municipality and its neighboring LGUs reached by the radio broadcast in terms of correct and relevant health and nutrition information dissemination.
Serving as inducting officer was Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo Jr., regional nutrition program coordinator of the National Nutrition Council.
In his congratulatory message, Dr. Dotollo reminded and challenged the CRC of its critical role in sound radio programming that best benefit the constituents on health and nutrition information dissemination.
Dotollo also reminded the nutriskwela radio station officials to maintain its independence while doing its interdependent functions. (MMP/NNC)
