TACLOBAN CITY -- The Philippine Statistics Authority – Regional Statistical Services Office VIII (PSA-RSSO 8) will host the 2nd Eastern Visayas Data Festival (EV Data Fest) at the People's Center and Library, Tacloban City on 19 October 2022.
The EV Data Fest will be anchored on the 33rd National Statistics Month (NSM) theme, “Boosting the Country’s Recovery with Informed Decisions, Better Policies.”
The event will bring together users and producers of statistics under one roof where they can share knowledge and best practices that will boost the region’s recovery through informed decisions and better policies. This further hope to strengthen partnerships, foster collaboration and inclusiveness among government entities, academe, civil society organizations, and the private sector. The activities are also designed to instill data appreciation and enhance statistical literacy on official statistics, in a fun way.
The EV Data Fest will consist of presentations, open discussions, games and contests. Featured guests during the plenary discussions include Tomas P. Africa, International Consultant in Statistics and former administrator, National Statistics Office (NSO); Dr. Chelsea L. Mitchell, Fulbright scholar, School of Statistics, University of the Philippines, Diliman; and Dir. Meylene C. Rosales, regional director, National Economic Development Authority VIII (NEDA 8).
Another highlight during the data fest is the Stakeholders’ Table where focal persons from NEDA, DOH, DOT, DA, DOST, and DSWD will discourse on their contribution to the region’s recovery.
For the student participants, there will be creative competitions to make them appreciate statistics such as Data Cartooning Contest, Data Storytelling Contest, Statman: The Tiktoker, and Amazing Stat.
The office assures the public that required public health and safety measures to contain COVID-19 will be implemented during the activities. Participants will wear face mask, observe proper hygiene and sanitation.
