NAVAL, Biliran -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) - Biliran District Engineering Office (DEO) recently completed the P24.5-M construction of flood control structure towards the upstream of Bagongbong River in Almeria town.

The said project involves the construction of a levee with reinforced concrete facing in two locations along Bagongbong River with a total length of 414-linear meter.

OIC-District Engineer Alfredo L. Bollido said the completed project will avert flooding during heavy rains to the residential zones and farmlands of the town.

“It was observed that during heavy rainfall and calamities, this river along Bagongbong would most likely overflow to the national road making the highways impassable to the travelling public. It does not only cause inconvenience to the motorists but also cause damage to the adjacent ricefields and poses danger to the residents,” said Bollido.

“With the completion of the project, it will provide a structure that will avert flooding thereby preventing damage to the lives, properties and the existing national road and bridge located along the national highway,” Bollido added.

Meanwhile, Domingga A. Montiadora, a resident at Sitio Salug, Bagongbong, expressed her gratitude to the DPWH for the flood mitigation project.

“Lahi na kay naa namay control, ibig sabihin makasagang na siya sa tubig, safety na ang naa sa igbaw kay dili naman muabot ang tubig. Salamat kaayo sa DPWH sa inyong gihimo nga control,” Montiadora said.
