Infrastructure development to help stimulate economic growth, says Bong Go as he inspects newly upgraded Malalag Port in Davao del Sur

PASAY CITY -- Eyed to promote economic growth not just in the town of Malalag but in the Davao region and nearby areas, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go inspected the newly constructed and upgraded Malalag Port in Davao del Sur on Saturday, November 26.

A new wharf, access trestle, improvements to the existing backup area, as well as the installation of a lighting system, are among the upgrades made on the port.

Malalag Port, known as one of the country’s most important international maritime gateways, is located in the southwest of Malalag Bay, roughly 88 kilometers south of Davao City and 25 kilometers from Digos City.

The Philippine Ports Authority said in a statement that “molasses, sugar, steel products, vehicles, and heavy equipment” are some of the commodities that are likely to pass through the port.

Go expressed hope that the upgraded facility will contribute to the growth and development not only of the Davao Region but of neighboring provinces.

Earlier that day, the senator also provided assistance to flood victims in Malalag.

Meanwhile, Go reiterated that he will continue to support more infrastructure initiatives that would benefit the nation and would promote more sustainable economic opportunities across the country.

The senator has been supporting various infrastructure initiatives of the government throughout different regions in his capacity as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance to help provide more livelihood prospects for more Filipinos.

He then lauded the current administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as they further pursue infrastructure development programs in various parts of the country.

(OSBG)
