DOT-8 showcases Baybay, Ormoc delicacies at ‘21st Kaon Ta, Kain Pa!’

DAVAO CITY -– Baybay City's and Ormoc City's food products are representing Eastern Visayas as the region participates in the flagship project of the Department of Tourism, the 21st Kaon Ta, Kain Pa! Food and Travel Festival from December 2-4 at the Ayala Abreeza Mall, this city.

With the theme, “Food Tripping Christmas,” the 3-day culinary event highlight dishes from regions 1, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the National Capital Region that will surely hit the Media Noche and Noche Buena tables.

Dried langka, Kamote Chips, Sweet Potato Ice Cream and Alto Peak Chocolate are what Eastern Visayas is showcasing in the culinary and trade event.

Dried langka or Jackfruit Chips, also called the Baybay Delights is a vacuum-fried and dehydrated jackfruit, sweet crunchy snack rich in energy, dietary fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants processed without artificial preservatives, retain its natural smell, color, and sweetness of a well-chosen jackfruit variety.

Baybay Delights is a program of the LGU for the local farmers aimed at creating sustainable livelihood programs and, at the same time, promote jackfruit as the regional fruit of Leyte.

Baybay’s Kamote Chips are made from organically grown sweet potato varieties and sourced from local farmers. It is a crunchy and thinly sliced snack rich in vitamins and fiber. Infused with spices, sweet potato or more popularly known as camote, is an excellent source of energy and nutrients for the family. It is rich in beta-carotene, Vitamin B6, manganese, and potassium.

The sweet potato ice cream is an add-on product of Baybay City from its locally-sourced sweet potato from local farmers

This sweet potato ice cream is blended with milk, cream, and sugar. It also comes in four different flavors -- original flavor, sweet potato-ube, sweet potato-langka, and sweet potato-macapuno.

Meanwhile, Ormoc's Alto Peak Chocolate is a pioneer chocolate in the region which offers the best and premium quality artisanal chocolates, and uses the best cacao beans from local cacao farmers.

In the recent 17th Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines-Department of Tourism (ATOP-DOT) Pearl Awards held in Tagaytay City, Alto Peak Chocolate was named the Grand Winner for the Best Tourism Promotion (Tourism Gifts & Souvenirs -- Food Category).

Alto Peak’s product lines included unsweetened tablea, dark chocolate bars of various chocolate percentage concentration, dark chocolate tidbits, milk chocolate bars, and the handmade chocolate bonbons in various ganaches, from imported wines to tropical fruits available in Leyte.

Alto Peak also has a cold ready-to-drink chocolate beverage.

Kaon Ta, Kain Pa! aims to promote food/gastronomy tourism, envisioned to position the country as a premiere culinary destination in the world and provide a platform for promotion of regional cuisine. (DOT-8)
