DPWH Biliran to rehabilitate NCCCR section's slope collapsed and damaged pavement

NAVAL, Biliran – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) - Biliran District Engineering Office (DEO) will conduct a rehabilitation project on the damaged section along the Naval-Caibiran Cross Country Road (NCCCR).

The P50-M budget under the National Calamity Fund was allocated for the rehabilitation of the damaged pavement and slope collapsed at Sitio Macalpe, Brgy. Cabibihan along NCCCR.

The said budget was prioritized for funding through the unwavering efforts of Representative Gerardo J. Espina Jr. of the lone district of Biliran in his persistence to make this road section accessible to all travelling public the soonest time.

As of present, only four wheeled, motorcycles and other light vehicles are allowed to pass through this road section while heavy equipment vehicles are to take the long route along Biliran Circumferential Road.

OIC-District Engineer Alfredo L. Bollido said the rehabilitation of the said road section has already been advertised and will be opened to the contractors for bidding on February 21, 2023. Once this project will be awarded to the winning bidder, the road section will immediately undergo rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, Bollido revealed that the District Office also proposes for the construction of a 150-meter long bridge in this area as a long-term plan solution.

Bollido said this has been a recurring problem of the District Office every time there is calamity and continuous heavy rains in the said area due to instability of land as surveyed by the geologists.

According to Bollido, this long-term plan solution will be included in its CY 2024 project proposals and will be implemented under multi-year funding. (DPWH-BDEO)
