NAVAL, Biliran -- Women employees of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) - Biliran District Engineering Office (DEO) on Tuesday, March 21, actively participated the activities during the 26th Provincial Women’s Congress in line with the celebration for the National Women’s Month.
The event commenced with a Holy Mass at the Cathedral Parish of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary followed by a parade around the town proper of Naval and ended at the Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) Gymnasium where most activities were held.
The activities were also joined by the women participants from the eight municipalities and from the national and local agencies in the Province of Biliran.
Highlight of the said celebration was the lecture on mental health by the resource person Vanessa V. Ramirez and the discussion on the Republic Act (RA) 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act, RA 10175 or the Anti-Cybercrime Law and Right Parenting by Atty. Corazon Aguilar- David.
The program was hosted by the Provincial Council for Women’s Welfare Inc. (PCWWI) headed by its President, Dr. Cecil M. Espina. The event was also graced by the presence of former Representative and Governor Rogelio J. Espina and current Governor Gerard Roger M. Espina, Vice Governor Brigido C. Caneja III, Board Members Roselyn Espina-Paras and Gina Enage together with Municipal Mayors Gretchen Stephanie M. Espina of Naval, Rhodessa D. Revita of Caibiran, Joseph C. Caingcoy Jr. of Maripipi, and Humphrey Olimba of Culaba.
Although not physically present in the said occasion, Representative of the Lone District of Biliran, Gerardo J. Espina Jr., showed his celebratory spirit in a warm message delivered through an audio-video presentation and some raffle prizes he initiated at the venue for the women participants.
The 2023 National Women’s Month celebration marks a juncture in the advancement of women’s rights as it launches a new recurring theme from this year to 2028, "WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society," highlighting the empowerment of women and gender equality issues and concerns. (DPWH-BDEO)
