ALABEL, Sarangani -- Members of the Philippine Association of Social Workers, Inc. (PAWSI) Sarangani Chapter convened on Friday, March 24, at the Capitol gym in celebration of the 67th World Social Work Day.
On behalf of Governor Rogelio D. Pacquiao, Executive Assistant Adeline Melliza lauded the social workers for their contributions, efforts, and commitment to the implementation of the government’s social welfare, development programs, and services for the betterment of the poor and vulnerable sectors of the society.
The Governor emphasized the impact of the social worker’s role in achieving lasting positive transformation in the community.
"I encourage you to continually do your work with love and excellence, and I hope that you will remain as our steadfast and reliable partners in bringing public service closer to the Sarangans," said Melliza as she delivered the message of the governor.
With the theme "Respecting Diversity through Joint Social Action," the celebration highlighted the unwavering commitment, dedication, and altruism of Filipino social workers in taking powerful actions that lead to inclusive social transformation in the community.
In her keynote address, Jocelyn Arzaga, Social Welfare Officer (SWO) IV of the City Social Welfare and Development Office-General Santos, highlighted the importance of diversity in the lives of every social worker.
"Diversity is not something to be afraid of, it should be something that we should celebrate and promote," Arzaga said.
"Today, we celebrate the diversities in life, and we fully understand that social workers operate in different settings, working to assist individuals in communities in managing various risks and challenges regardless of identity, race, ethnicity, gender, or religion," Arzaga added.
The activity also recognized the contribution and legacy of some social workers who have spent bountiful years of their lives in social service.
On behalf of PAWSI-Sarangani, Sharon Quiatchon, PAWSI Mindanao treasurer, and SWO III of the SOCCSKSARGEN Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center expressed her gratitude to Governor Pacquiao for supporting the event.
"This is the first time that PAWSI-Sarangani had this big gathering para magkita-kita kaming mga social workers, and we thank Gov. Ruel for helping us make the celebration of World Social Work Day a success," said Quiatchon.
This year, PAWSI also celebrates its 75 productive years of service to the country. (Joshua John S. Pantonial/SARANGANI PROVINCIAL INFORMATION OFFICE)
