BAROBO, Surigao del Sur -- Some young Barobohanons from ages 15 to 30 years old, recently attended the Youth Summit 2023 facilitated by the local government unit of Barobo, Surigao del Sur through the Municipal Youth Development Office (MYDO).

Relevant issues, challenges, and concerns about the youth and the environment were discussed, such as Gender-based Violence and Child Protection as presented by Juderiz Neri, the Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) team leader of DSWD Caraga.

Topics on drug addiction and teenage pregnancy were elaborated by Robby C. Rulona, recovery coach of the Department of Health-Caraga, and Dr. Elizalde D. Bana, doctor of the bario of the Municipal Health Office (MHO) in Barobo.

The Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation was also presented to the participating youth as discussed by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) representative, Nieves D. Hibaya, while the topic on youth infiltration and the new people's army recruitment was explained to them by Sgt. Edrelle Bayles of the 67th IB.

The activity was joined by the students from Barobo National High School (NHS), Tambis NHS, Rizal NHS, Wakat NHS, Dinuyan NHS, Surigao del Sur Colleges (SSC), and Mother of Mercy Academy (MOMA).

The members of the Local Youth Development Council (LYDC), Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC), Alpha Mu Phi - Anchorians Fraternity and Sorority, Tau Gamma Phi, and the Sangguiang Kabataan (SK) Federation, headed by the SK Federation President Claridylle G. Cortes also participated in the event.

The activity commenced with the Municipal Mayor Joey S. Pama, acknowledging the young audience and participants with a  positive challenge  to do better and be better than their forefathers and be responsible members of the community. (NGPB/with a report from LGU-Barobo/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
