HINATUAN, Surigao del Sur -- A new Farmers' Information and Technology Services (FITS) Center was successfully turned over by the local government unit of Hinatuan on May 18, 2023. The facility will serve as an information center for farming technology and agriculture-related information services. Its primary goal is to enhance farmers' awareness and understanding of various agricultural programs and services by providing them with fast and easy access to vital information and technology services.
The significant infrastructure project is a testament to the commitment of the current administration under the leadership of Mayor Shem Garay, which was realized through the 2022 Gender and Development (GAD) fund, as a reflection of the municipality's dedication to advancing gender equality and inclusive development.
Mayor Garay led the turnover including the ceremonial ribbon cutting and blessing officiated by Rev. Fr. Eric Jorge J. Dueňas, Parochial Vicar, together with acting Vice Mayor Nerito P. Malinao, and the members of the Sangguniang Bayan.
Distinguished guests who attended the occasion included Surigao del Sur Sangguniang Panlalawigan District II member Anthony Joseph Caňedo; OIC center director of the Department of Agriculture -Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI) Caraga, Dr. Jessie V. Beldia; OPAg chief Marcos M. Quico; former municipal agriculturist, Severina C. Pore and representative from Bayalas Construction/DM Builder. Some attendees were LGU department/office heads, MAO personnel led by Maria Elena R. Ravelo, acting municipal agriculturist, as well as farmers and farmer-leaders and other stakeholders. (G. S.
