SAN MIGUEL, Surigao del Sur -- In line with the observation of the 2023 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) also known as World Drug Day, the local government unit of San Miguel, Surigao del Sur headed by Mayor Michael T. Corilla through the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC), conducted a fun run dubbed as “Takbo, Indak at Kaalaman Kontra Droga” with the theme, "People First: Stop Stigma and Discrimination, Strengthen Prevention," on June 26, 2023 in San Miguel town.
The MADAC members and the 18 barangay councils of the town joined the fun run and other activities such as the Zumba which was actively participated by Mayor Corilla, who is also the MADAC chair.
A short program followed the physical activities at the municipal evacuation center in Barangay Tina of the said town,. There was also information and education campaign on World Drug Day conducted as part of the celebration.
In his message, MADAC chair emphasized that the campaign on anti-illegal drugs effectively promotes discipline among the San Miguelnons, as we are discouraged from such vices on illegal drugs. He also thanked the participants who joined the activities.
According to Municipal Information Officer, Earl Adam S. Lambaco, during the IEC activity, the speakers discussed the following topics namely, ill effects of illegal drugs; drug trafficking; and the situation on anti-illegal drugs. The rationale of the IDADAIT was also addressed through a Pledge of Commitment.
Lambaco added that there was a surprise cash gift to the lucky three participants who won the fun run and the participants who participated and confidently answered the questions raised during the lecturer facilitated by the mayor.
Meanwhile, IDADAIT is observed simultaneously in all member countries of the United Nations as mamdated by its resolution signed on December 7, 1987, and further strengthened by Presidential Proclamation No. 264.
